Why buy refurbished?
Refurbished products are delivering greater value and return on
investment to customers large and small.
But for some, the term "refurbished" stirs up more
questions than confidence: "Am I buying someone's hand-me-downs
with a few new parts thrown in?" "Will the software
on my ATM be out-of-date?"
Diebold Global Finance works with each of our customers to determine
if purchasing refurbished products is right for them. They often
discover that refurbished options are a smart value and the best
decision. Here's a few of the common questions we're asked.
What is "refurbished"?
In general terms, refurbished could also be referred to as remarketed,
equivalent to new, or remanufactured. A refurbished ATM is offered
on just about all product lines: cash dispensers, self service
terminals -- even our new Optevas. They are products that have
been returned to Diebold for a variety of reasons and then put
through a rigorous re-manufacturing process.
Where do refurbished products come from?
- Customer returns and cancelled orders - Fully-functional
products that leave the Diebold warehouse and therefore can
no longer be sold as new.
- Damaged products - Products returned because of cosmetic
flaws or damage during shipping.
- Overstocks - Items that are returned by the seller to make
room for newer product lines.
- Trade-in programs - Products customers have returned in order
to upgrade.
- Factory loaner equipment - Products that have been used for
trade shows, customer events, or solution centers that have
been returned.
How is a product remanufactured?
Every Diebold refurbished product is restored by Diebold to its
original condition and performance. Each item is thoroughly tested.
Broken or defective parts are replaced. And products are verified
for use.
All Diebold refurbished products are upgraded to meet current
performance specifications. For example, cash cassettes are replaced
with new ones, and the latest software patches are installed.
When is refurbished better?
If your budget is lean, Diebold refurbished products offer high
quality, warrantied product at a low cost. For some applications,
the latest, greatest technology is a must. In other cases, a remanufactured
product is simply a better choice.
For example:
- If you don't require the latest equipment.
- If you have a standardized product line across your branches,
and that line has been discontinued.
- If you need equipment for a testing lab or support help desk.
Software testing may be performed just as effectively using
refurbished products as with new.
- If you're waiting for a new product, you may find one in
the refurbished market due to a return or cancelled order.
What should I look for when I buy refurbished?
Here are a few tips:
- Buy directly. Be sure your product was refurbished by the
original manufacturer. Brokers looking to recoup losses may
refurbish a product cheaply and resell it without an adequate
warranty or return policy.
- Buying directly from Diebold will ensure that your product
has been remanufactured and tested to meet the highest Diebold
quality standards.
- Check the warranty. Does your seller guarantee the quality
of its remanufactured products? Products remanufactured by Diebold
are covered by a Diebold warranty. For some product lines, the
warranty is the same as the one for an equivalent new product.
- Act now. Diebold refurbished product inventory turns over
quickly. Unlike new, if you miss out on a product you want,
re-stocking or back-ordering may not be an option.
- Check the software, service, and support options. Can I put
the equipment on my service contract? Is the software legally
licensed? Will the products come with the latest software revisions?
Are the service and support options for remanufactured products
equivalent to those offered on new products and the most current
software upgrades installed.
